About

Welcome to Willoughby Organics! A sustainable fruit, vegetable, and honey farm located in Broomfield, Colorado, we are dedicated to growing high-quality, nutrient-packed produce using sustainable and regenerative practices. While we are not certified organic, we grow using organic principles. We go above and beyond traditional standards by implementing no-till farming methods, which protect soil health, preserve beneficial microorganisms, and promote long-term sustainability. We also maintain a section of our property as pollinator habitat to feed our native bee populations and practice water conservation methods.

Why does no till matter? The process of upturning the soil to loosen, aerate, and break up the leftover plant material before a new crop is planted may not seem harmful, but we get a different picture when we take on a microscopic perspective. Anyone who’s ever gotten the flu can attest that microbes run the world. In all of humanity’s macro glory, these microscopic masterminds can bring us to our knees. On the other hand, they are some of our best friends. The microbes inside your gut are responsible for producing and absorbing vitamins and minerals you couldn’t live without.

In the same way that the human body needs this symbiotic relationship, so does the soil. In the same way that you’d burn to a crisp lying under the hot sun with no shelter all day (some of us anyways), so do the microbes that we lay out to die when we till them up out of the soil. A diversity of microbes on and in your food means a diversity of tiny friends working for the benefit of your health. So when you eat, you’re not just eating for one. You’re eating for billions of microbes that make up the community that keeps you healthy.

At Willoughby Organics, we love feeding everyone on the farm, even the non-humans. By maintaining a part of the property as wildlife and pollinator habitat, we feed the whole host of critters that come to tour the farm, from bees feeding on flowers to birds feeding on insects to insects feeding on insects! We couldn’t do it without them, so if you notice a bite taken out of your produce, know that something else thought it was delicious too!

As a small-scale farm, we focus on growing a diverse range of seasonal vegetables, herbs, and flowers, all cultivated with love. Our honey bees, located on-site and nearby, also keep us stocked with honey, honeycomb, and beeswax products.

Thank you for supporting local, conscious farming. We look forward to growing with our community and sharing the harvest with you!
